What Have You Been Up To?

Professor Daniela Rosner once talked to me about how crafting: weaving, knitting, fiber arts, are the bedrock of computing. As makers and creators, I frequently find that sewing is seen as less technical, even though when you think about, crocheting is the first ever 3D printing.

When I’m not working remotely, texting voters, checking my GeekGirlConline Email to make sure the workshops are good to go, or buying books from my favorite local store, I’ve found myself crafting more than ever before. Here are some examples:

My first big pandemic purchase was a bucket full of yarn from the local craft store and a crochet hook. I’ve been knitting for years, but this was my first time creating with crochet. These two got me whale into amigurumi, and I hope to make a pineapple purse and some hats this winter.

My first ever Embroidery Pattern!

I still need to add the stars, but I’m really happy with how this is turning out. I actually took apart the hand and stitched the entire thing again. The practice helped a lot, my second attempt is much neater and looks less like a claw.
